Shot using a handheld camcorder, Nelson's video unfolds in a single take, without editing, staging, or prior direction – an unfiltered exploration of emotion. Reflecting Nelson's painting process, the video piece moves through multiple frames, tightly cropping expressions of the face to further abstract the image and subject matter. The video draws from Physical Theatre, where movement and gesture are prioritized over dialogue. It also references the philosophy of clowning, as discussed by Christopher Bayes, where vulnerability becomes its own language. The film is projected on a large screen, which both amplifies and distances the intimacy of the frame, inviting the viewer to reflect on their own reactions. By intentionally removing sound, emotions become less defined, more fluid, and open to interpretation. This absence invites a deeper connection to the raw nature of the performance, where expressions are not confined by narrative or expectation but are allowed to resonate in ambiguity.
